VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a technology that allows users to make phone calls over data networks, such as the Internet. By converting the analogue speech into digital data, the speech can be sent along a network to the receiving VoIP address. This process allows multiple users to take part in the conversation.
VoIP calls can be made using a VoIP service provider and basic computer sound structure. VoIP telephone handsets can also be purchased from service providers to allow a service that feels almost identical to the analogue phone system.
